SAM TEACHER ASSISTANT

Research,  Product Flow and Design Solution.

The Problem

To manage the groups, tasks and performance of each student.

The Goal

Develop Sam Teacher Assistant (STA) platform for everyday group class management.

User Research

In the beginning, I came directly to English school teachers. 14  participants walked through the existing process, while we observed the flow and asked to comment on every step and click along the way.

14 teachers is not a lot for a study but enough to see constant. After,  I finished with the survey.

Insights & Analysis of Responses

  From observations and surveys we found the following:
  • All teachers use different excel sheets to keep records;
  • Google calendar to track schedule and sub;
  • 60% of teachers searched homework tasks in folders named by task practice “Vocabulary”, “Times”, “Modal Verbs”, “Translation”, “Listening”, “Speaking” etc.,
  • There is no system for out of class and entertainment projects planner (as movie class, presentation in TED talk’s style, debate, etc.)
  • Teachers report extra support needed students for arranging a separate class or schedule a one-on-one;

Information Architecture / TREE TEST

To testify our suggestions we asked participants to play with cards and categorize them by tree method.
Here is what we got after summarizing the cards.

USER FLOW

Yep, everyone loves pen and paper!

We came up with 5  user flow streams:
Groups
Lessons
Calendar and Events
Student and Teacher Settings

Solution

After 2 iterations and  wireframing,  we came up with 3 start points of user flow.  Groups, Lessons and  Calendar.
